What should a complete European journey include? A little of the energy of the big cities, a little of the calm of the wine villages, and the stillness of the snow-capped peaks. These twelve days through France, Switzerland and Germany offer all three.
France
The journey begins in Paris. You visit the Palace of Versailles with its Hall of Mirrors from the time of Louis XIV, admire the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, then enter the Louvre. Heading east, the group stops in Reims — the capital of the Champagne region — to taste wine in the chalk cellars underground. Next come the old villages of Colmar and Eguisheim, with their colourful timbered houses and flower-filled balconies.
Switzerland
The Rhine Falls — the largest waterfall in Western Europe — opens the Swiss leg. In the Engelberg area, a 360-degree rotating cable car carries you up the snow-capped Titlis. By Lake Lucerne stand the wooden Kapellbrücke bridge and the Lion Monument. The route also crosses the Furka Pass and visits the lakeside village of Iseltwald, which featured in the series Crash Landing on You.
Germany
The final leg brings you into Germany. In Stuttgart, car enthusiasts will enjoy the Mercedes-Benz Museum, which traces the history of the automobile from the earliest cars to modern racers. The journey ends in Frankfurt — a financial centre that keeps its old character at the Römerberg square and the Eiserner Steg bridge — along with the Wertheim Village outlet for those who wish to shop.
